It’s time to enter our competition! Our Mixtape staff will help winners develop their dream music into a fully realized concert program. We manage venue and audience, recording equipment, or anything else you need -- at a fraction of the costs classical musicians usually face. Here’s how to submit your winning ideas!!

1. Find repertoire you would love to perform.

  • There are NO limits on what you can sing. Dig deep and find something that really moves you!

  • Anything goes in genre, style or production … as long as classical song is at the forefront of your performance.

  • We’re eager to hear a wide array of applications, so we’re leaving the requirements broad. No age limits, no résumé-worship, no repertoire restrictions.

  • Any of the following elements would be of great interest to our audition panel:

    • Collaborations with a local composer.

    • Thematic connections to your city (Boston, DC, or Philadelphia).

    • Art installations or unusual venues.

    • Repertoire that is “new to you”, outside your comfort zone, or stylistically reimagined.

    • These are NOT required, and your concert proposal may be excellent without them!

  • You can see some good examples on our past events page.

2. Write your application.

  • Concert proposal (up to 3 pages

    • thoughtful performance order of sample repertoire

    • please cite composers and dates

    • include any annotations, links, or images that would help us understand your vision.

  • Short biography (100 words)

  • Personal statement (500 words)

  • PROMPT: This season, Mixtape Recital Series supports singers with artistic ties to Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington DC. Please tell us how your region has influenced your career path or shaped this particular concert program. Our other mission is to support “artists in transition” – please tell us what that means to you personally.

  • Submit some other details as well, including a headshot, local address, and repertoire titles.

3. Show off your voice.

  • Submit two video recordings with your application.

    • These videos may be contrasting pieces from your proposed concert program

    • OR similar repertoire, preferably art song that shows your performance style and abilities.

    • If you are applying as an ensemble but do not have videos together as a group, please use the first two video submissions to show song work from your primary vocalist(s). Then, you may fill in the supplementary spaces to show work from other collaborators.
