How it works:

Mixtape’s National Advisory Board is the steering committee for all our programming in the USA. Our Creative Team sets our high standards for artistic and musical excellence. Together, they manage the three city boards, which read applications and vote on prize winners in Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. Once winners are announced, these city board members become project mentors - your biggest advocates! Our winners go on to produce amazing concerts, but the joy doesn’t stop there. Mixtape will follow and support those artists throughout their careers. Our alumni become family … and influence the future of our work.

Our organization was built by singers, for singers.

We’re proud to announce that 100% of our current staff is female-identifying and/or LGBT+. 92% of those staff members are professional singers, representing seven states plus the District of Columbia! Some of this may change in future years as the project expands, but we’re thrilled with these numbers.

Why is it so unusual to have an artistic staff made almost entirely of women? You can learn more through organizations like Opera America’s Women’s Opera Network that research and promote gender equality in classical vocal music.
